Sunday Kind of Love
“I want a Sunday kind of love
A love to last...past Saturday night
And I’d like to know it’s more than love at first sight
And I want a Sunday kind of love”
I love this song. It’s a classic made famous by the legenary and timeless Etta James. She may be best known by my other favorite love ballad, “At Last”, but that’s a different post.
Today, I want to talk about “A Sunday Kind of Love.”
Here’s a link to listen…it’s amazing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfNLspDL3ns
What I love most about this song is the words and the way Ms. Etta delivers them. She sings about wanting a love that will last beyond Saturday night. And you can tell just by the tone in her voice that she’s had her share of Saturday night one night stands. You can also tell that many of those one night stands have probably left her feeling a little let down and wanting something more.
And that’s the way it is with casual sex. Call it what you like…a hook up, a booty call, a piece…it’s all the same. A mere shadow of the amazing, heartfelt, genuine, life-affirming love that God created for us to enjoy as husband and wife. A Saturday night hook up after the club is not even on tenth of one percent of what God envisions the sexual relationship to be. And Ms. Etta had a clue about that.
Later in the lyrics, she sings these lines:
“And my arms need someone…Someone to enfold
To keep me warm when Mondays and Tuesdays grow cold
Love for all my life...to have and to hold
Oh and I want a Sunday kind of love”
“To have and to hold…” This speaks of the marriage vow. A commitment of a lifetime, not just one night. She’s talking about a love that will be there every day of the week, every hour of the day and not just the nights, under the cover of darkness…slippin’ and dippin’. Ms. Etta is talking about being with a man who will stand by her side in the light of day. By her side on Sunday morning in church, praying, worshipping and serving God…not just Saturday night in bed.
Ms. Etta calls this kind of love, being on the “square” and that’s someone who is open, honest and available. Someone who calls on the regular and not just on Saturday night after he’s had a few drinks and is feeling the desire for a woman…any woman who’s willing to give him some. Just as some men still do today. Funny how things haven’t changed since Ms. Etta recorded this song so many, many years ago.
Now let me ask you, my sister…
Are you ready for that Sunday kind of love?
Are you ready for the man who’s committed to God and to you…looking to make you happy and not just to take whatever he can get?
Are you tired of the Saturday night drop in the bucket or do you want the overflow of God’s promise for true commitment?
Are you tired of that man only calling late at night, stopping by for a quickie then leaving your high and dry?
If you honestly answer yes to any of these questions, then you already know the answer. You need a ManFast.
Why a ManFast?
